Robot 03:22
Looking out, your television eyes give no shadow, No spark, no quickening, no human sign of hope Shutting down, your automated organ vessel chatters, It’s dark, your cold steel hand in mine It’s time to go Oh, what a beautiful one What a beautiful 11010111 Looking back, your television mind lived in shadow In dark, in misery in unrelenting air Knowing that your insufficient authorship was tattered In part, the silence all around It’s time to go Oh, what a beautiful one What a beautiful 11010111

BHD 03:13
Step back- ‘cause we’re dinosaurs We’re huge and we’re fierce and you’ll fear our roar We’re comin’ for you, you’re who we’re comin’ for Our hearts are blacker than a nasty healing sore Step back- ‘cause we’re dinosaurs There’s nowhere to hide, we’ll kick down the door We travelled through time, we fought in every war So listen up to get a glimpse of what’s in store Blackheart dinosaur We survived the ice age Blackheart dinosaur Now the world is our stage Oh damn! Look at me- got a Patch on one eye but I still can see Live like a pirate out on the sea, I’ll be In your town eventually Am I a villain? Yeah- so don’t misunderstand I’ll eat you whether you’re a woman, child, or man Causin’ mayhem everywhere I can You’re the victim in this dino pirate plan One on one or in a gang, you’ll be Ripped to shreds by claw and fang Raise the sail! Let our enemies hang, ‘cause Blackheart Dinosaur goes out with a bang! “Greetings, people of Earth It’s time to make amends Say goodbye to your loved ones This won’t be like Barney and friends” Like Vikings- but more frightening We can conjure snow and lightning The noose is slowly tightening And our teeth shine bright from whitening Try your best, we can take a hit but you Best believe that we won’t take (shh…) We don’t mess around, we move lickety-split Your plans have failed so it’s time to quit! I am the very model of the modern major dinosaur I walk upright both day and night and cut in line at every store You’ll never see or hear me coming there’s no way you’re ready for A carnivore who’s waging war and keeping score forevermore I may not be right but you’re still wrong This whole time I’ve been warning you in song Sound the alarm, bang the loudest gong The calls were coming from inside all along! Blackheart dinosaur We survived the ice age Blackheart dinosaur Now the world is our stage

Gambler 03:03
I gambled all my money and I lost all my money and I gambled all my friends and I lost all my friends and I gambled all my chances and I lost all my chances and I gambled all my time and I lost all my time Can't fight the soul of a gambler now It's alright to go and abandon me now I gambled all my dreams and I lost all my dreams and I gambled all my days and I lost all my days and I gambled all my hopes and I lost all my hopes and I gambled all I had and I lost all I had Can't fight the soul of a gambler now It's alright to go and abandon me now I gambled all your love and I lost all your love and I gambled all your touch and I lost all your touch and I gambled all your trust and I lost all your trust and I gambled all confidence and lost that confidence I gambled all your love and I lost all your love and I gambled all your love and I lost all your love and I gambled all your love and I lost all your love and I gambled all your love and I lost all your love Can't fight the soul of a gambler now It's alright to go and abandon me now Can't fight the soul of a gambler now It's alright to go and abandon me now

Arm 03:34
Fifteen years ago, give or take a few I was on my bike and so bored- what’s new So busy looking cool instead of looking out And that’s how I broke my arm When I first set eyes on you na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na I guess you could say it was just dumb luck Crashing into the front of that illegally parked pickup truck You rushed right to my side and rushed me to E.R. That summer I broke my arm And I fell in love with you na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na Who could ever hear this and believe it? Does this kind of thing happen every day? Some stupid accident that seems inconvenient Turns out to change your life in all of the best ways I’m so glad I broke my arm Since it led to life with you na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na Fifteen years but who’s keeping track anymore?

Caravan 03:25
Fourteen miles is eerily surprising When you’re trying to get to the horizon Oh, all the people go past in frenzy Listen to the hum of their anger venting Fourteen miles is another day behind you When you’re trying to remember who you lied to Oh, all the people in red sunglasses Watching for the sun each day as it passes by My style is a promise in a heartbeat When you’re ready to carry it for me Oh, all the promises, roadkill promises Waiting for the traveling gods and goddesses Fourteen style is ever compromising When you’re trying to fit your goodbyes in Oh, all the people blow kisses in the rear view Waving to the ones who stuck to their virtues You can run to every caravan that’s driven by a tin man You can run to every caravan that’s bigger than a tin can You wake up, try to understand the mind of a journeyman Fourteen miles with the caravan My smile is eerily surprising When you’re trying to get to the horizon Oh, all the people go past in frenzy Listen to the hum of their anger venting My smile is another day behind you When you’re trying to remember who you lied to Oh, all the people blow kisses in the rear view Waving to the ones who stuck to their virtues You can run to every caravan that’s driven by a tin man You can run to every caravan that’s bigger than a tin can You wake up, try to understand the mind of a journeyman Fourteen miles with the caravan

Messenger 03:15
Whoa, don’t shoot the messenger Whoa, don’t shoot He didn’t make it to the hospital that day 8 years old, and now a funeral When the dog bites, it leaves more than a scar Whoa, don’t shoot the messenger Whoa, don’t shoot (2x) They were starving to hit the slopes that day But it ended in a fiery display He tried his very best, but couldn’t save them all Whoa, don’t shoot the messenger Whoa, don’t shoot (2x) On the road it started, a toothache on that day Miles across the country, infection was the way Now a poor young family, bad taste in their mouth Whoa, don’t shoot the messenger Whoa, don’t shoot (2x) Crazy things happen in life, that’s for sure But I’m just a teller of this tale Take a moment outside yourself, a little empathy You’ll realize, we’re all the same Whoa, don’t shoot the messenger Whoa, don’t shoot

Martini 04:25
Her eyes Met mine And somewhere I could feel the stars align Her lips Half smiled Just like a hopeless fool I was beguiled In that instant I knew we could last for eternity Slowly to her I drew and I asked, “What will it be?” She said, “I’ll have a martini” Turning her face toward me These first words that she spoke Ring in my memory Her skin Moonlight We shared a stolen kiss and slipped outside Her hands Brushed mine Not knowing we were running out of time That night our hearts were claimed, but soon fate made other plans No one can be to blame, or take this weight off of my hands I still can taste that martini Standing under the stars We shared more than that drink The night was only ours I’ll never have a martini As I live and I breathe All they bring back is pain Heartache and grief

about

This album is the sum of one crazy month of work. Writing started the 1st of February, 2017. Basic tracking began February 12th, and recording was finished February 26th. Two days of mixing followed, and the album was done in 28 days.

The beauty of this process is there's little time to second guess yourself, and to just go with and develop any crazy idea you have. One of the genuine dangers to a creative mind can be a lack of restriction, so a time deadline can force unexpected thinking and solutions.

The song titles were chosen from a list of randomly generated words, as was the band name. Truthfully, though, Blackheart Dinosaur already existed in our hearts and minds, and always will.
